What is vaginal atrophy?

Vaginal atrophy is a condition that occurs when a woman's natural estrogen levels drop, usually during menopause or while breastfeeding, causing the vaginal walls to become thin, dry and often inflamed. As the tissues atrophy, intercourse can become painful and natural sex drive can begin to decrease as a result. In addition to pain and discomfort, vaginal atrophy can also result in symptoms of incontinence and an increase in urinary tract infections.

The MonaLisa Touch is a painless procedure that uses a slim laser device inserted into the vagina to promote the production of collagen in the vaginal walls and restore the normal, healthy balance of the mucous membranes that line the vagina. How does the MonaLisa Touch work?

The MonaLisa Touch laser uses a special scanner to create tiny lesions in the vaginal wall that stimulate the production of collagen and help replenish the vaginal walls' natural mucosal balance. The collagen rebuilding process begins immediately and can last for weeks, relieving symptoms and regenerating the vaginal lining, helping tissues become tighter and more elastic and helping to restore the natural pH balance of the vaginal lining so the risk of infections is reduced.

How many treatments will I need?

Although just a single treatment can produce improvements in tone and elasticity, maximum results are achieved after three treatments spaced six weeks apart. Treatments are performed in Dr. Bickman's office, and no anesthesia is required. Following treatment, you'll be able to resume your normal activities right away.
